I am not wanting to go in to marine mammals, I want to study cats (all wild cats, not just the big ones). I am like you to whales, only with cats.

But I can recognize a whale to by its fluke, and shape, and I am not even a huge fan!

I think your idea is lovely, but if you are really passionate, you would move away and study, and join established organizations, and work for them. The ones that are really making a difference now, rather than just making your own.

Also, there are places that do marine biology in Australia, its pretty common.
